PEER REVIEW ASSESSMENT SHEET FOR ASSIGNMENT No. 7

Words from JKP:
I did not have to give much assistance in the reaction part of the assignment during the peer review. I did, however, have to give a little explanation of what they were actually doing for the ranking of acidity and basicity. For ranking acidity, I told them that they could think about it in two ways. I drew one of the problems on the board, then drew an arrow pointing down from each molecule ending at the deprotonated product. I reminded them of what "acidity" really meant, and that there were two ways that they could rank the acidity of the molecules I had drawn. They could look at (1) the stability of the protonated molecule (the one on the assignment), or they could look at (2) the stability of the deprotonated product. If they chose to look at (1), then the more stable, the less acidic. If they chose to look at (2), then the more stable, the more acidic. I think this helped them organize all the information they were learning. I then showed an example for ranking basicity using the same process.
