Red played for Regina Pats Jr. Hockey Team, in Bellville MacFarlands (Canada's National Team 1958-1959) and the Flin Flon Bombers before entering Michigan. One of the finest hockey players ever to play for Michigan, Red won acclaim from many fans, opponents and coaches throughout the United States.
   
He played 2 ½ years as a center and left wing. In 1960-1961, he scored 24 goals and 24 assists for 48 points. In 1961-1962, he scored 43 goals and 27 assists for 70 points. The 43 goals and 70 points are both Michigan records. One the ice, Red enjoyed many thrills, but quoting Red, he says his most memorable experience at Michigan was his association with Al Renfrew, the finest man he ever played hockey for. His most important goal was the record breaking goal for the most goals in a season in 1961-1962. Nicknamed "Red", he was Captain in 1961-1962 and led the team to a 3rd place finish in the NCAA playoffs. Red left immediately from the Michigan scene at season end and was signed by the Montreal organization for the rest of the season. His first NHL goal was a record breaking one for the Montreal organization in a season, scored against the Red Wings. Red has played for the Montreal organization since graduation and in 1966, he was traded to New York. In the summers of 1965 and 1966, he obtained his MA from the School of Business Administration here at Michigan. Married, Red has three children. While here, Red won many honors. In 1960-1961, he was All American, MVP on team, high scorer on team and first All Star. In 1961-1962, he was All American, MVP on team and in league (WCHA), high scorer on team and first All Star.
