| Bill played for the Toronto Marlboro's Junior A team before coming to the University of Michigan in 1953. He played center, under Vic Heyliger, for three years, scoring many goals and assists. In 1954, he scored 9 points in the NCAA tournament for a record. In 1955, he had five points in a NCAA tournament game, also a record. Bill's most important goal was the fifth goal in a 5-3 win over Colorado College in the 1955 NCAA championship game. He was elected captain for two years, 1954-55 and 1955-56. Both years while he was captain Michigan was NCAA champs. | |
| Bill graduated from the School of Business Administration in 1956 and played ten years with the Seattle Totems hockey team in the Western League. He was captain for several years. In 1966, he was named general manager and coach. While playing hockey in Seattle, he graduated from law school. He was then elected president of the Western Hockey League. He was also general manager of the Phoenix team in the World Hockey League. He was selected to the 1953-54 All American as honorable mention; 2nd Team Denver Post and 2nd team NCAA. In 1954-55, he was 2nd team All American, 2nd team Denver Post and 1st team NCAA. In 1955-56, he was 1st team All American and 1st team Denver Post. | |
