Originally from Ontario, Canada, Al played four seasons under Coach Vic Heyliger, 1945-1946 through 1948-1949. He scored 91 goals and collected 81 assists for an amazing career total of 172 points. He was a member of Michigan's first NCAA Championship team in 1948.
 
His most exciting experience at Michigan was scoring four goals in a game against Minnesota in a 6-2 Michigan victory. Al also scored a goal against Colorado College with 11 seconds left in overtime to keep a 23 game winning streak alive. Al was Captain of the 1948-1949 team and graduated from the School of Education. He later coached the Wolverine Hockey Team from 1957-1958 through 1972-1973, leading the team to an NCAA Championship in 1964.
