Keith played hockey on an independent team in the Oakland County league before enrolling at Michigan. Playing under Coach Eddie Lowrey, he played center for three seasons. He was one of the most outstanding cetners in college hockey and along with Emerson Reid, were the most feared scoring duos in the Western Conference. He was elected co-captain for the 1932-33 season. He and Emerson Reid led the team in scoring all three years.
   
Keith was selected as a spare on College Humor's All-American team in 1931-32. He was also a member of the U.S. National Amateur White Stars team in 1934. Keith, known as "Iron Man", played every minute of every game for three years except when serving a penalty. In an exhibition game with the Detroit Red Wings, he scored on a 90 foot shot that took a crazy bounce over the goalie's stick. After graduation, he played 12 years in the M-O League and International League. He was scoring champ two times, second twice, and third twice. He also coached the Windsor Club one season and high school hockey in Rockford, Illinois for three years.
