George came to the University of Michigan from Ontario, Canada. He played right wing under Coach Vic Heyliger from 1951-1952 through 1953-1954. George scored 55 goals and recorded 67 assists for a career total of 122 points. He was the leading scorer in both the 1952 and 1953 NCAA Hockey Tournaments. Michigan was the NCAA Champion in each year.
 
George was named to the All-American Team in 1952 and again in 1953. His most memorable experience at Michigan was winning the NCAA Championship in his rookie season. George graduated from the College of Literature, Science and the Arts.
