John played minor hockey for the Toronto Marlboro Jr. B team for 3 years and for the Jr. A team for one year before enrolling at Michigan. He played right wing on three consecutive NCAA Championship teams. His career scoring record is 54 goals and 46 assists. He also scored 5 goals and 2 assists in NCAA tournament competition.
   
John was selected to the Coaches All-American Team in 1951 and was selected as an All-American on the 1952 NCAA Tournament Team. He graduated from the School of Business Administration. John coached several years in minor league hockey and has served at the Executive level with the Humber Valley Hockey Association in the Toronto area.
