Randy, from Chatham, Ontario, played in the Chatham Minor Hockey Association and for the Chatham Junior Maroons for three years before coming to Michigan in the fall of 1971. Playing defense for four years for Coach Al Renfrew and Coach Dan Farrell, Randy was elected Captain in both his junior and senior years, 1973-74 and 1974-75. He is only the fourth Captain Michigan hockey history to serve more than one year. In his junior and senior years, he led Michigan to 18-17-1 and 22-17-1 records, Michigan's first winning seasons in [something cut off here on the photocopy, could be more than] five years. Randy graduated from the College of Literature, Science, and the arts in 1975
