Joe arrived on the campus of the University of Michigan in 1958 after having played four years for the Regina Pats in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Joe is from North Battleford, Saskatchewan and he played left wing for coach Al Renfrew for only two seasons because of an age restriction. He scored 15 goals and 15 assists for a career total of 30 points.
He scored two goals in a 2-2 tie at North Dakota and his parents were in the stands as they came down from Saskatchewan to see him play the only time I his career as a Wolverine. In the 1960-61 season, Michigan had a 16-10 records and won the Big 10 Championship. Joe graduated from the College of Architecture in 1963. He was coached in the kids amateur hockey program for years and still plays old timers hockey three mornings a week. To quote Al Renfrew, "Joe was always a very steady winger who played his position well. He played on the same line with Red Berenson and Dale MacDonald, the latter two both played pro hockey."
