Originally from Kelowna, BC, Greg played for the Kelowna Buckaroos of the BC Junior Hockey League before enrolling at the University of Michigan in 1972. He was a stalwart on defense for four years, one under Coach Al Renfrew and three for Coach Dan Farrell. Greg was a Tri-Captain in his senior year, 1976. Only scoring three goals during his career, Greg contributed 66 career assists and was the career leader in penalty minutes with 311 at the time of his graduation.
   
Greg was named Michigan's Most Improved Player during the 1974 season. Nicknamed "Foxy", he graduated from the School of Natural Resources. Drafted by the Atlanta Flames in 1974, Greg played in the NHL from 1976 to 1985 with stops in Atlanta, Chicago and Pittsburgh.
