Gus arrived in Ann Arbor in 1960 as an athletic trainer and worked for the hockey team throughout the 1960's. Gus was instrumental in organizing the Dekers and served as the first president of the Dekers.
 
He initiated and developed the first official program for hockey. One of his most treasured accomplishments was his development of the concept of the "Hockey Legends" which are on display at Yost Ice Arena. His fondest Michigan hockey memory is being the trainer for the 1964 NCAA Championship team.
