| Joe Marmo is from East Boston, MA and played hockey for the University of Massachusetts for two years before enrolling at the University of Michigan. He played center and left wing under coach Vic Heyliger. Joe's Michigan career spanned the years 1948-49 to 1950-51. Joe's most memorable experience at the University of Michigan was playing on three NCAA teams and being a member of the 1951 championship team. He also is proud to have been a member of these Michigan teams that had so many talented players. | |
| Joe retired from the Department of Energy after 30 years and went into consulting. He has three children. He organized youth hockey in Massena, New York in 1956. In 1962, Joe also organized the first ever youth hockey program in the state of Idaho in Idaho Falls. Joe received numerous awards: Elected national director of AHAUS in 1977; Grand Marshall of Idaho Falls' Fourth of July Parade; First recipient in the US for the William Thayer Tutt Award from AHAUS for work in youth hockey over the last 30 years; had an Idaho Falls rink named for him and another man-Joe Marmo-Wayne Lehto Ice Facility; numerous awards from service clubs, etc. | |
