1) "A" (pre 1924-present): In charge of all chapter operations. Responsible for dealing with outside relations as well as appointing committee heads up until recently. 2) Alumni Banquet (1953-54): Committee assisting the "E"; in charge of conducting alumni banquet usually occurring at the end of the year. 3) Alumni Relations (1957-58, 1965-66, 1970-71, 1986-87, 1991-92): Committee assisting the "E"; in charge of maintaining relations with alumni. 4) Appropriations Committee (1969-81): Charged with purchasing smaller needed items for the chapter for example kitchen utensils. 5) Associate Member Counselor (1988-present): In charge of Associate member program and associate member term. Accomplishments: I-week finalized at the beginning of the term, big bros. send letters to little bros' parents. 6) Archives Chairman (1976-90): In charge of taking pictures and recording the history of the chapter. Ideas: Photo of the term award, picture board up for captioning. 7) Athletics (1930-present): In charge of signing up the chapter for athletic events and organizing teams to play them. Sports Delta Chi has played: Football, softball, track, bicycle race, basketball, ping-pong, racquetball, wrestling, volleyball, water polo, handball, golf, horseshoes, and rifle shooting. Usually a chairman and not a committee. 8) "B" (pre 1924-present): Charged with assisting the President; today oversees internal committee system. 9) Bar Committee (1975-84): Charged with maintenance and stocking of the bar (duty previously ascribed to Social chairman). 10) Brotherhood Chairman (1993-present): Responsible for brothers-only events; headed by Member-at-Large. Chair of internal committee. 11) Bylaws Committee (1949-50, 1956-60, 1963-64, 1977-78, 1990-92): In charge of bylaw revisions and changes, as well as when new bylaws are created. 12) "C" (pre 1924-present): In charge of communication with IHQ and keeping chapter records. 13) Centennial Committee (1990-92): Organized Michigan Chapter centennial celebration in 1992. 14) Chaplain (1961-62): In charge of religious matters within the house. 15) Chi Delphia Chairman (1970-86): Little sisters program for Delta Chi. Had such events as canoe trips, casino parties, wine and cheese parties. Dissolved in 1986 after unsuccessfully suing IHQ to become full Delta Chis. 16) Christmas Decorations Chairman (1985-86, 1987-88): In charge of decorating the house for the holiday season. 17) Community Service Committee (1985-87): Charged with Delta Chi service in the community. 18) Constitution Chairman (1984-85): Assigned to review national constitution. 19) "D" (pre 1924-present): In charge of chapter finances. Usually received extra seniority points in recognition of his work. From 1952 to 1993 had an assistant "D" who would serve for one term before becoming "D". 20) Dog Chairman (1956-62, 1976-80, 1984-85): When the house has a dog, in charge of getting food, shots, etc. 21) "E" (pre 1924-present): Charged with making and printing the Michigan Delt as well as dealing with alumni. 22) External Committee (1996-present): Consolidation of Social, Greek Week, Philanthropy, External Relations, and Athletic positions. Chaired by Social Chairman. 23) Energy Monitor Chairman (1976-78): Responsible for reducing energy use within the house. 24) External Relations Board (1994-96): Responsible for communicating with and setting up events with other Greek organizations. 25) "F" (pre 1924-present): In charge of risk management and house safety. 26) "F" minor (pre 1924-1928): Assistant to the "F". 27) FCC (1971-81): Fraternity Coordinating Council; IFC-like body which Delta Chi was a part of after IFC folded. 28) Finance Committee (1925-28, 1985-87): In charge of approving large chapter improvements such as a new trophy case, washing machine, kitchen improvements, or new driveway. Also in charge of formulating budget. 29) Formal Chairman (1989-present): In charge of formal usually held at the end of the year (formerly pledge formal) usually held out of town. 30) Freshman Head (1924-30): Office in charge of pledges and pledge term. 31) Goals Committee (1962-63): Organized to create goals that the chapter should work toward. 32) Greek Week Chairman (1978-present): Organizes Delta Chi's participation in Greek Week. 33) Guest Rates Committee (1956-57): Organized to determine what rates guests of the fraternity should be charged when staying here. 34) Help Week Committee (1954-56): Advisory committee on help week policy. 35) Historian (1955-60, 1995-present): In charge of pictures and other records of chapter history (much like Archives committee). 36) Homecoming Committee (1948-49, 1953-54, 1959-60, 1964-65, 1969-74, 1983-86, 1991-92): Committee in charge of organizing Homecoming events. Today under the "E"'s jurisdiction. 37) House Manager (1925-present): In charge of maintenance of the chapter house and small repairs, as well as getting other members of the house to do their house jobs. Not head of a committee but assisted by an assistant house manager for many years. 38) House Protection Committee (1963-64): In charge of safety of the chapter house. 39) IFC Representative (1980-1994): Interfraternity Council; Representative 1948-72 and 1994-present has been the "A". Responsible for reporting back rulings and events of the IFC, for example composite stealing rules: must go through front door and wear letters. Can only steal most recent composite. 40) Internal Committee (1996-present): Consolidation of Brotherhood, House Manager, Steward, Scholarship, and Formal positions. Chaired by Brotherhood Chairman. 41) J-Hop Committee (1948-57): In charge of finding a sorority to participate with Delta Chi in J-Hop. 42) Judicial Board (1992-present): Charged with arbitrating disputes among brothers and making decisions. 43) Little Sisters Chairman (1968-69): Predecessor to Chi Delphia. 44) Machine Chairman (1959-85): Brother in charge of maintenance and refill of the pop and candy machines the house has possessed. Sometimes had an assistant to help maintain the machines. 45) Mascot Chairman (1962-66): In charge of looking for a chapter mascot. 46) Member-at-Large (1950-present): In charge of critiquing chapter; advisor on general policy to the chapter. 47) Michigras Committee (1949-66): Organized Delta Chi participation in Michigras, a Spring celebration similar to homecoming with floats, events, etc. 48) Parents' Weekend Chairman (1958-59): In charge of parents' weekend event; usually held during Homecoming. 49) Parliamentarian (1949-80): In charge of instructing the chapter in parliamentary procedure and updating the bylaws. 50) Philanthropy Chairman (1988-present): Charged with helping philanthropic organizations such as Mott's Childrens' Hospital . 51) Pledge Counselor (1986-88): Name of office in charge of pledges and pledge term.; organized such activities as a pledge retreat and live-in weekend. 52) Pledge Coordinating Committee (1952-59): Charged with formulating pledge policy; comprised of both actives and pledges. 53) Pledge Programming Committee (1963-64): Committee charged to develop a pledge program. 54) Pledge Master (1930-50): Name of office in charge of pledges and pledge term. 55) Pledge Trainer (1950-86): Name of office in charge of pledges and pledge term. Responsible for organizing things as a pledge work session, Fireside. 56) Public Relations Chairman (1965-86): Charged with communicating with outside organizations such as putting rush advertisements in the Michigan Daily or sending cards to sororities on founders' days and holidays. 57) Rush Chairman (1926-present): In charge of new member recruitment, often had an assistant or committee. Organized formal, open, and summer rush. Used such ideas as a commitment sheet by brothers, pig roast, best rusher award given each night of rush, and steak dinner for rushees, among others. Often had an assistant (or two) and recently and entire committee. Includes positions of formal rush chairman, open rush chairman, and summer rush chairman. Today is head of rush committee and bid committee. 58) Recycling Chairman (1992-93): In charge of making sure brothers recycle. 59) Regionals Committee (1963-64): In charge of regional conference held in Ann Arbor. 60) Scholarship Chairman (1949-present): Charged with the academic help and improvement of both pledges and actives. Used such tactics as $20 gift certificate given for academic improvement, steak and beans dinner for brothers over a 3.0 GPA, study tables, 3 man scholarship teams; high GPA and most improved awards. 61) Sex Chairman (1953-54): "Charged to prevent brothers from scrounging while visitors are in the house". 62) Social Chairman (1927-present): In charge of creating and putting on social events of the chapter, as well as hiring a DJ or band for parties. Often had an assigned assistant to help. Assigned brothers to work on social events (refreshments, decorations, ect). Today in charge of External Committee. Examples of social events: Christmas formal, culture night, movie night, Valentines' Day semi-formal, hayride, costume party, election party, formal calendar prepared at start of term, toga party, party with Martha Cook, beach party, coffin party, dance party, video party, happy hour party, crush party, pool party, viking dinner, mexican party, Tahiti party, progressive, western party, bubble wrap party, graffiti party, gangster party, ghost party, Egyptian party, Roman party, bohemian party, pajama party. 63) Song Chairman (1948-89): In charge of organizing serenades and Christmas caroling as well as participation in IFC sing. 64) Sorority Relations Chairman (1959-60, 1970-71): In charge of relations with sororities. 65) Special Events Committee (1966-67): In charge of all special events such as Homecoming, Spring Weekend, etc. 66) Spring Weekend Chairman (1958-63): In charge of holding event for parents and alumni in the Spring. 67) Standards (Committee of Standards) (1960-92): Committee formed (consisting of most senior members of the chapter) to reprimand brothers and issue demerits or fines. 68) State of the House Committee (1957-59): Committee formed to suggest house improvements. 69) Steward (1924-present): In charge of the kitchen and supplying items for and hiring a cook (when necessary). Received a salary or meal credits for his duties and served on the executive board until 1992. Before kitchen remodeling in 1990 which eliminated having to hire a cook often had one or two assistants to help his with his job. 70) Winter Maintenance Chairman (1982-84): Charged with upkeep of the house during the winter (for example, shoveling and salting). Separate from House Manager. 71) Winter Weekend Chairman (1965-66): In charge of weekend organized with events sponsored between the Greek system and dorms. 72) Wolverun Derby Chairman (1954-55): In charge of sponsoring or building a car for a soapbox derby event that was a part of Michigras. |
