Fall Schedule Announced - Four Events
The Michigan Softball Team will play in four events this fall - the Traverse City Tourney, a home-and-home series against Michigan State, and a home exhibition with Eastern Michigan.
The five teams at the Traverse City College Tournament will be Michigan, Central Michigan, Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State and Western Michigan, with four teams playing one another in a round-robin format on Saturday, Sept. 17. Specific game matchups will be added at a later date. The first-place team from the round robin faces the fourth-place team, while the second- and third-place squads will square off in semifinal action Sunday, Sept. 18. Championship and consolation games will immediately follow the semifinals. All games will be at Traverse City West High School.
Michigan will host a pair of fall home events at the Wilpon Softball Complex, home of Alumni Field, for the fourth straight year.
U-M will host the Spartans at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, before rounding out its fall ball slate with a 3 p.m. scrimmage against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Both fall home events are open to the public and will be free of charge.
Between their home contests, the Wolverines will travel to East Lansing, Mich., to square off against Michigan State at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The fall tournament slate will give U-M fans their first opportunity to see the 2012 Wolverine lineup, which will feature three newcomers, RHP Sara Driesenga (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS), catcher Lauren Sweet (Corona, Calif./Santiago HS) and LHP Haylie Wagner (Orange, Calif./El Modena HS).
Michigan returns 15 players from 2010, including three All-Americans -- senior third baseman Amanda Chidester (Allen Park, Mich./Cabrini HS), senior centerfielder Bree Evans (Bloomington, Calif./Rialto HS) and junior second baseman Ashley Lane (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS) -- as well as two additional All-Big Ten selections.
About Us
The Diamond Club originated in 1983 as a support group for the University of Michigan Softball team. One of the main objectives of the club was to spearhead fundraising efforts for special program needs, but with increased participation the Club has developed into an organized and fun way to support UM Softball. Originally involving the family of the participating team members, the Diamond Club has since developed a network extending from alumni to community members to business owners who all share a tremendous passion for Michigan Softball.
