Welcome!
You have reached the webpage of Dinesh, an alumnus of the EECS department of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I was born in the south Indian city of Madurai and grew up in Thanjavur for the most part. I did my undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) and did my Ph.D at UM under the guidance of Prof. Sandeep Pradhan. My primary research interests during my PhD were in the area of Information theory and Signal processing as they apply to problems of Information transmission. I enjoy learning about mathematics - both theoretical and as it applies to solutions of real-world problems.
Academics
My PhD research focused primarily on the problem of distributed source coding. We explored the possibility of using structured coding techniques to obtain rate gains for multi-terminal communication problems. We have also worked on graph based transmission schemes for transmitting correlated sources over multi-user channels. This problem has led us to the exploration of the large scale structural properties of Typicality graphs. For a high level explanation of my research, look here. My thesis report, the presentation that I gave at my defense and all my published papers and reports are available here. I also have a brief resume and a more detailed Curriculumn Vitae.
Interests
I enjoy learning math and doing mathematical puzzles. I am a huge fan of books and movies. I am a rabid Wolverines fan that bleeds Maize and Blue. I play Ultimate Frisbee, Tennis and Racquetball regularly. I enjoy the outdoors and love to hike in the Sierras. I am also an avid quizzer. Occasionally, I volunteer some time for the Ann Arbor based non-profit organization called Pudiyador. If you want to know more about these interests, look here.
