The University of Michigan
Club of Downriver

2005 Spring Scholarship Awards Dinner
Arnaldo's Banquet Center, Riverview, Michigan
May 12, 2005

This is the biggest and most important Club event of the year. We invite two juniors and one counselor or principal from each of the Downriver high schools as our guests. Our purpose is to convince the best Downriver students to consider Michigan as their school of choice. We ask a prominent U of M faculty member or alumnus to speak to the students and encourage them to be the best they can be. Jim Van Hecke has been a regular speaker and helps to recruit the students and provides information on the admission process. We provide a folder to each student with admission information, a copy of The Wolverine and a copy of a recent Michigan Daily, the student newspaper. We also present three scholarship--the Lloyd Carr Scholarship and two Kenneth W. Hartwell Scholarships. We hold a short business meeting where next year's board members are elected. Mary Ann Sincock has done a marvelous job decorating the hall. In addition we play plenty of Michigan Band and Michigan Men's and Women's Glee Club music.
