E&E provides quick scoring and analysis of multiple-choice examinations given in University courses. Last year E&E scored and analyzed results from nearly 700 classroom examinations.

A faculty member who requests E&E's standard scoring service receives the following:

  • Scores by name: a list of student examination scores ordered alphabetically by student last name;
  • Scores by score: a list of scores ordered numerically by examination score;
  • Scores by student ID: a list of scores ordered numerically by student identification number;
  • Frequencies: a frequency distribution of test scores and basic with a statistical description of the distribution;
  • an item analysis.
  • Responses: for all items, a listing of student responses showing incorrect choices.

You can view sample reports in Adobe Acrobat by clicking on each the above items; if you need to download a copy of the Acrobat Reader, you can get a free copy by clicking here.

E&E can tailor scoring reports to the special needs of University teachers. Among options available to teachers are scoring formulas that incorporate corrections for guessing; scoring by sub-test; differential weighting of sub-test scores in forming the total score; and generation of reports by course section as well as by total course. Instructors can have examinations re-scored simply and economically with scoring of "poor" test items corrected. Such items can be deleted from the scoring key entirely, or the key can be changed so that students receive credit for several different responses to an item.

E&E can also record student examination responses in computer files for separate analysis by instructors. This computer-file storage service may be obtained as an adjunct to or a substitute for E&E's regular scoring services.

Academic departments of the University usually cover the costs of answer sheets and scoring and analysis of test data. Answer sheets cost $9.00 per 100 sheets. The charge for processing answer sheets is a function of the number of sheets processed, number of items per sheet, and the type of processing requested. For standard scoring service on a 40-item examination taken by 100 students, a typical charge is $24. For the same examination, the charge would be $30 for standard scoring service plus storage of answers in a computer file. For a detailed description of E&E charges, click here.
