Too many peas in a pod

Housed for safe keeping in the county jail. Both your wives have come to visit with you in jail, crying, not knowing what to do without you. You tell them not to worry, soon your trial will be heard and all will be well. You are hauled into the courtroom, wearing only your holey rags. First the judge looks upon you over his spectacles, and then he makes a verdict, almost instantly.

He says, “any person who marries multiple wives, the subsequent wives, after the first wife, are considered null.”

Your face pleads for mercy, even a tear falls from you eye, as you think to yourself, “I only wanted a son.” The judge then tells you that this is considered a felonious act. Even though your first wife might have “accepted” the circumstances the law would not.(15)
