LEVITE GOWN, LEVETES
circa 1780's
An open robe that could be closed with cords attached. Usually with long sleeves and tucks in the back to give the gown some form. In the late 18th century, the manner in which levetes were worn over another gown closely resembled the fashion style of the 17th century. (Cunnington, Dictionary, 126.)
