early independence
Independence:
Mary Wollstonecraft has been described as a "feminist by force of
circumstance -- both personal and historical" (Tims 3). How did the
early part of Mary's life reflect her personal growth as an avid
thinker and philosopher? These years are rich with insight
surrounding Mary's later politics. They also help us understand how
Mary applied her political beliefs to her own life in her mature
years-- for even as a youngster, she was an independent thinker and
autonomous individual, rising against many personal challenges.
For
example, it is not just that Mary Wollstonecraft came to preach
independence, she practiced it from an early age, and seemed to have
had an innate affinity for social change. When she spoke against
economic hardship, for instance, it was out of her own experience of
poverty that she was inspired to fight against it.
