1. ESA-UM Website Maintenance/Development
- Committee Members: Mahmoud Hussein (Webmaster).
- Results: 2000-2001 Agenda posted; minor updates/modifications
at various parts of the site were implemented.
2. ESA-UM 2000-2001 Annual Book Campaign
- Committee Members: Khaled Sallam (Book-Campaign Manager), Hatem Orban,
Abdelrahman El-Leathy.
- Results: ESA-UM sent a shipment on August 25th, 2000,
consisting of 4 books and 788 journal issues. This year's recipient was Cairo University. Names of
books are recorded in spreadsheet form and kept in the ESA-UM binder, held by the president.
3. ESA-UM Participation in the 2000 ESA-NA General Assembly
- Results: Treasurer Aladdein Mattar represented ESA-UM at the convention
and submitted a report on the visit. This report is kept in the ESA-UM binder, held by the
president.
4. ESA-UM Fall-2000 & Winter-2001 Social Gatherings
- Fall-2000 Organizing Committee Members: Hatem Orban, Hosam Fathy,
Aladdein Mattar.
- Winter-2001 Organizing Committee Members: Hatem Orban, Hosam Fathy,
Aladdein Mattar.
- Results: The Fall-2000 Gathering took place at the Gallup Park
on September 30th, 2000. The first Winter-2001 Gathering took place at the UM Family Housing Community
Center (North Campus) on January 20th, 2001. The second Winter-2001 Gathering took place at Chapel Hill
Club House, Ann Arbor, on March 5th, 2001.
5. ESA-UM Diwan (new activity)
- First Diwan Organizing Committee Members: Hosam Fathy.
- Second Diwan Organizing Committee Members: Hosam Fathy.
- Results: The first Diwan took place in North Campus on June 13th, 2000.
The guest speaker, Mr. Gamal Sultan of Al-Bayan Al-Jadeed, discussed Current Political Issues in
Egypt. The second Diwan took place at the UM Family Housing Community Center on July 29th, 2000. The
guest speaker, Mr. Raouf Ahmed of the Egyptian National Investment Bank gave a talk titled On
Economics, Banking and Investment in Egypt: Current Issues.
6. Co-sponsored Events (new activity)
- On March 7th, 2001, ESA-UM co-sponsored a lecture titled How Immigration
Laws Affect Arabs and Other Minorities in 2001. The speaker was James Parry Eyster of the American
Immigration Lawyers Association. The event was co-sponsored with the following U-M student organizations:
Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, Arab Student Association, Lebanese Student Association,
Muslim Student Association, and Pakistani Student Assocation.
