PLQ 18 - What equations in table 8-3 on pages 502 and 503 would change if there were pressure drop?

Individual

  1. P8-3 (a) - email to Chloe at csweet.goblue@gmail.com

    Note: All ICMs are individual

Group

  1. P8-2 (c-omit CSTR calculation) (e-omit (2) and (4)) Hint: Load Living Example Problems.
  2. P8-A

The elementary reversible organic liquid-phase reaction.

is carried out in a flow reactor. An equal molar feed in A and B enters at 47°C, and the volumetric rate is 2 dm3/s and CA0 = 0.1 mol/dm3.

    1. For adiabatic operation, plot X, Xe and T of the PFR profiles up to a volume of 100 dm3.
    2. Repeat (a) when a heat exchanger is added, Ua = 0.8 cal/dm3/s/K, and the coolant temperature is constant at Ta = 320 K.
    3. Repeat (b) for a co-current heat exchanger for a coolant flow rate of 50 g/s and CPe = 1 cal/g • K, and in inlet coolant temperature of Ta0 = 320 K. Also plot Ta versus volume.
    4. Repeat (c) for counter current coolant flow.
    5. Compare your answers to (a) through (d) and describe what you find. What generalizations can you make?
    6. Vary the coolant rate (1 < < 1,000 g/s) for (c) and (d) and describe what you find.
    7. Repeat (a) (b) (c)and (d) when the reaction is endothermic with ΔHRx = 6,000 cal/mol but with T0 = 400K and Ta0 = 450K.
