The Planting and Plowing

In two rural Minnesota farming settlements (Dalesburg and Isanti), farmers planted most of thier acreage in wheat. The rest of the land was used for secondary crops such as corn and oats. In Scandinavia, the farmers had little to no experience with wheat growing, so the Midwestern farming was difficult to adapt to. Scandinavian farmers living in the Midwest changed to a completely different style of farming. The way farming was done in Scandinavia was not even a viable option in the Midwest. The wheat and grain farming continued throughout the century, and later the sandy soil was discovered to be good for growing potatoes.
