In the family structure, it is the woman’s job to keep family networks. Family networks are then used to help the family in time of crisis or for entertainment purposes. If a family were to move, the network would be lost and need to be started once again.

Community can also affect the family structure. If there is no interaction with others, the family feels isolated from the outside world. During the industrialization period, many families were migrating to the cities. Since many were far away from their networks, the families were more willing to befriend others. This made the transition into cities easier for the entire family.

In the country, the community had a larger background. Many of the families may have been living in the same area for decades. Each family knew each other and there was a closer relationship between the families.
