MHealthy Fall 2011 Stress Management Classes


Choose from several classes designed to help you respond to life's stressors, acquire new skills, and effectively address both personal and work-related stress.

 

“Managing Anger” a six-week educational series
Wednesdays, starting January18th,11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Administrative Services Building

Managing Anger will focus on:

  • How to understand the anger response and recognize anger triggers
  • Learning steps and skills for cool downs and other ways to manage one’s anger effectively
  • Learning problem solving skills
  • How to brainstorm appropriate responses to stressful situations

This educational series will be conducted by professional staff of FASAP.  The series will be held in a confidential setting within the FASAP office area, in the Administrative Services Building.

Those who would like to learn how to better understand and more effectively manage their anger are encouraged to attend.  Participation is voluntary.

The Psychological Aspects of Retirement 
Wednesday, October 26, 3-5pm, Michigan Union: Wolverine Room

Successful Retirement: What does it take besides money? Happiness in retirement is about more than finances. People who are "successfully retired" have planned lifestyles that keep them physically, socially, and intellectually active in order to ensure their total well-being. Join us in a discussion in which you will learn from experts as well as from colleagues who have retired successfully or who are planning to retire in the near future. You will leave with ideas about planning for your own successful retirement. Facilitated by the professional staff of the U-M Faculty & Staff Assistance Program.

Stress Hardy: Bouncing Back from Difficult Times 
Tuesdays, November 1 and November 8 (attend both), 3-5pm, Michigan Union- Anderson Rm (Nov 1) and Kuenzel Rm (Nov 8).

How well are you managing stress? This two-part series is designed to address personal and work-related stress. Participants will have the opportunity to receive a personalized stress assessment; increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of stress in order to reduce its effects; learn a variety of techniques to manage stress including addressing negative thought patterns; and develop a personalized action plan to reduce stress and increase well-being. Facilitated by the professional staff of the U-M Faculty & Staff Assistance Program

Drop-in Support Group for Caregivers 
Tuesdays, Oct 18, Dec 6, Feb 7, and Apr 10 (attend any or all), 11:30am - 12:45pm, Michigan Union- Wolverine Room

Who is Caring for the Caregivers? Are you a caregiver for an aging parent, disabled partner, or special needs family member? If so, you may be at risk for increased stress, lost work time, health concerns and/or time away from friends and other family. You may have conflicted feelings about the family member whom you assist and find it difficult to discuss the challenges of your situation or get personal support. Join us for group discussions that will afford participants the opportunity to share experiences and resources, increase coping and gain support. Facilitated by the professional staff of the U-M Faculty & Staff Assistance Program. No Registration Required.
