Newcomers:

As a club sport, the University of Michigan Fencing Team is
always looking for new members.

No experience is necessary, and all equipment is provided by the
team.

We will be having a Mass Meeting early in the Fall for interested
newcomers. The date will be posted here as soon as it is finalized.
Look for our booths at Rec Sports Day and at Festifall for more
information.

If you cannot attend the Mass Meeting, simply attend any
practice.

Dues:

Dues will be announced early in the semester. Non-university
affiliates will need to pay an additional $60.00 above the dues
fee for a pass to the Coliseum.

What to Wear:

Normal gym attire is acceptable. Foil and Sabre fencers usually
wear shorts. Epee fencers prefer to wear pants for added
protection since the legs are a target area.

Tournaments:

Each year, the fencing team travels to tournaments around the
midwest. The team is highly competitive and challenges some of the
best Varsity and Club teams in the country.

Tournament fees and most travel expenses are also paid for out of
club dues, however competitors need to bring money for their own
food. In addition, those who compete will need to purchase or
borrow their own pair of knickers (or baseball pants), and long
white socks. It is highly recommended that each member of the team
purchase a glove as well. Fencers who intend to fence frequently in
competitions are encouraged, but not required, to purchase their
own equipment.
