Kristina Håkansson

Associate Professor of Chemistry

E-mail:kicki@umich.edu

I was born and raised in Sweden and received an M.Sc. in "Molecular Biotechnology", a major combining math, physics, biochemistry and biology, from Uppsala University in 1996.  In 2000, I received a Ph.D in the same area from Uppsala University under the supervision of Prof. Per HÃ¥kansson (no relation) with a thesis entitled "Method and Technique Development in Peptide and Protein Mass Spectrometry".  The same year I received a postdoctoral fellowship from the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT) and pursued postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Alan G. Marshall at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, FL for three years.  During my postdoc, I implemented and applied electron capture dissociation for biomolecular structural characterization.  In 2003, I joined the faculty in Chemistry at the University of Michigan and am having the pleasure of supervising a bunch of brilliant young scientists in our pursuit to further develop and apply ion-electron reaction techniques for bioanalytical FT-ICR mass spectrometry.
