Prepare yourself for Blood Battle! Did you know… Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional problem among women
and children? Iron deficiency is also a big reason of why hundreds of would-be
donors are turned away from blood drives every week. What can you do so that you won’t get turned away for low iron? You can take a multivitamin that includes the recommended daily
allowance of iron (15 mg). Also, be sure to stock up on iron-rich foods
including liver, beef (most red meats), legumes, lima beans, kidney beans, dark
green leafy vegetables, dried fruits and potato skins. Many fortified cereals
also have a good amount of iron including Total, All Bran, Life, and Wheaties. It is always important to have a healthy iron level to prevent
anemia. Iron deficiency can also cause breakdowns in vital functions and lead
to disease and low mental performance. And as always make sure to drink lots of water and eat a good meal
before you donate!!! Make sure you and your blood is healthy because the “I tried”
people don’t count against OSU! Help us beat the Buckeyes for the third
straight year!![]()
