Many are concerned that China's large bilateral trade surplus with the U.S. and rapidly growing auto industry threatens Michigan's economic interests. At the same time, China's rapid growth and other economic challenges present economic opportunities for their trading partners. In this talk, Professor Albert Park will analyze the nature of China's trade growth and other key dimensions of China's economic reforms to provide insights into how Michigan can position itself to respond to China's rise as a global trading power.

Alan Saltiel, Director of the U-M Life Sciences Institute and John Jacob Abel, Professor of Life Sciences, Medical School, will discuss transformational change in science. The combinations of genetic, computational, biochemical and chemical tools now at our fingertips have generated many new ways to attack problems in biology, on a scale never imagined.  This paradigm shift brings with it new challenges, particularly the challenge of collaboration. The University of Michigan hhas recognized the importance of this challenge, and created the LSI as a hub for collaboration among outstanding scientists focused on problems of great importance to human health.

The University of Michigan Center for Value-Based Insurance Design engages in the design, evaluation, and promotion of health insurance products that achieve improvements in health outcomes while containing costs.
