University social workers, physicians, lawyers and graduate students are available to help parents and children overcome the problems and challenges of family life. Child Welfare Services The School of Social Work offers training programs for
child welfare and family service agencies. Assistance
is offered for professionals who work in the areas of
domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse
issues. Social work faculty draw on their expertise and
experience, as well as their work with child welfare
and family service agencies. Family Assessment Clinic The Clinic provides assessment, treatment and consultation
services on cases involving possible or actual child
maltreatment. It involves faculty, doctoral and master's
level graduate
students, and staff from the schools of Social Work,
Law, Education and Medicine; the Department of Psychology;
and
professionals from the community. Michigan Poverty Law Program The MPLP works directly with local service agencies to assure
legal aid to the poor and assist organizations with local training
needs. It also issues publications detailing legal developments.
The program is a coordinated project of the Michigan Migrant
Legal Assistance Project, Legal Services of Southeastern
Michigan and the Law School. University Center for the Child and the Family The Center provides assessment and treatment for children,
adolescents, families and couples. Services include
mental health care, social skills groups for
children and teens, divorce groups for adults and their children, and an
adoptive parents' group. Services also are available
for lesbian, gay and bisexual families. |
