|
This is the first major international exhibit to explore how the dramatic
political, cultural and economic changes taking place in the contemporary
Chinese world have resulted in a vibrant and unique diversity of artistic
expression. Four major geographic areas--People's Republic of China,
Taiwan, Hong Kong and "The Third Space" (artists abroad)--will form the
organizational framework of the exhibition. The exhibition is appearing
concurrently at the Henry Art Gallery, University
of Washington; it previously appeared at the Asia Society and the P.S.
1 Contemporary Art Center, New York, concurrently (September 15, 1998 -
January 3, 1999); the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the San
Francisco Museum of Modern Art, concurrently (February 26 - June 1, 1999);
and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de
Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico (July 9 - October 10, 1999). It will
travel to further North American and Asian venues. Accompanied by a
