This exhibit includes previously unseen folk-style scrolls depicting the Ten Buddhist Hells, early Chinese Buddhist icons, and Sino-Tibetan Taras and Mandalas.


• Drama from Kabuki: The E.F. Rosenblatt Family Collection
February 26 - June 2000

This exhibit features ukiyo-e prints from a recent gift to the museum, together with ukiyo-e paintings and narrative works from the museumšs collection.


• China: Fifty Years inside the Peoplešs Republic
April 12 - June 18, 2000

The exhibition will explore half a century of social and political upheaval in China through the eyes of 25 of the most important Chinese and Western photographers of our time. Few countries have seen such drastic changes as those that have occurred in China since the birth of the Republic in 1949. This collection of more than 150 images will present a memorable exploration of an extraordinary place and time, offering audiences an experience as broad and diverse as China and its society.
