Ware September 23, 1999 - May 20, 2000 | ||||
| Glazing is the ultimate adornment on ceramic ware and its emergence marks an important breakthrough in the development of ceramics. Glazing enhances both aesthetic and functional requirements of ceramic vessels, and it is used as one of the judging criteria for evaluation of a ceramic vessel. This exhibition features over 100 items of glazed teaware selected from the K.S. Lo Collection housed at the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware. The exhibits, dated from the Warring States period (475 - 221 B.C.) to the 20th century, reveal the achievement of glazed teaware of successive periods. The exhibits in high-fired glazes, low-fired glazes, overglaze decoration, underglaze decoration and doucai demonstrate various decoration effects of glaze colours. It is aimed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of glazed teaware through a concise and systematic introduction to the development and interrelation of different types of glazes. | ||||
