•Nanga: Art of the Japanese Literati from the 18th and 19th Centuries
November 7, 2000 - February 3, 2001

This exhibition will highlight Japanese literati paintings from artists such as Buson, Chikuto, Baiitsu, and Baitei. The exhibition includes works from the Lee Institute permanent collection and several pieces on special loan from Nanga scholar and collector Professor Stephen Addiss (University of Richmond). In conjunction, there will be a small exhibition featuring calligraphy by Nanga artists.

The museum's collection includes Buddhist paintings and sculpture, a wide range of Edo period paintings, and close to 30 pairs or single byobu folding screens.
