•Auspicious Images in Chinese Rugs and Textiles
through June 10, 2001

Bats, peonies, dragons, pearls, many of the most common motifs used in Chinese knotted pile rugs and woven luxury textiles, conveyed wishes for good luck, good health, longevity, and prosperity. This exhibition explores the imagery in the Museumıs collection of Chinese rugs and velvets, many of which have never before been shown. Sharing center stage in the exhibition are an exuberant dragon-motif pillar rug and an unusual hanging that combines Buddhist and Taoist designs.
