Children of Compassion - A Generation in Exile
June 30 - July 31, 2001 | ||||
|
This is an exhibition of Tibetan children's art, poetry and photography by young artists who live in Mussoorie, once a British Raj Hill Station in northern India. In 1962, His Holiness the Dalai Lama directed the founding of the Tibetan Homes Foundation School there as a safe environment for the orphans and children forced to flee from Tibet. "Children of Compassion: A Generation in Exile" is presented with the hope of aiding the children and their school, while bringing to the public a chance to not only learn more about the daily lives of these Tibetan children in exile, but also to share in the compassion of a wise and gentle people. The children's paintings were created in the Painting Club, a collaboration between Sarah Lukas of Friends of Tibetan Women Association and Sonam Chophel, the art teacher at Tibetan Homes Foundation in Mussoorie.
In addition to the children's work, the exhibit features the images of young Tibetans by four photographers: Kitty Leaken, Barbara Goodbody, Susan Nikolay and Donna De Cesare. | ||||
