Tatsumi Orimoto: 1972-2000
May 19 - July 28, 2001 | ||||
| Performance artist Tatsumi Orimoto, known for his "Bread Man" performances and for his "Art Mama" series, deals with communication and understanding, often presenting an unexpected intruder in foreign countries whose languages he cannot even speak, and gives us glimpses of the modes and essence of communication among different "others," including its possibilities and impossibilities. His works do not provide any immediate keys to resolving this difficult problem of mutual understanding; rather, because of their seemingly absurd and meaningless outward appearances, his performances may sometimes cause the people who happen to be present to ignore or resent him. | ||||
