The Way of Rama: A Prince in Exile
Permanent | ||||
| This exhibit is the third in the WHO'S WHO/WHAT'S WHAT SERIES designed to initiate viewers to great epics, legends, and histories from South Asia. The exhibit focuses on the adventures of the Hindu god Rama and his wife Sita. Rama, like Krishna, is an incarnation of the great god Vishnu, born as a mortal in order to bring divine powers into the course of events on earth. While Krishna brought the power of play and devotion, Rama brings the virtue of a righteous son, husband, brother, and king. | ||||

Asian Crossroads: Selections from the Permanent Collection
Ongoing | ||||
| The theme of the installation is the exchange of art and ideas among Asian cultures. These links were largely forged in the name of religion and trade and were made by way of the "Silk Routes" and the sea-lanes connecting East Asia. The strongest holdings for this installation are in East Asia - dominated by the Museum's fine collection of Buddhist art and early Chinese jades. From South Asia, important Buddhist pieces as well as Hindu sculpture will be on view. This installation preserves the harmonious space and opportunities for contemplation that the Court has long afforded visitors. A special display of goods produced for luxury and trade in Asia suggests the density of urban life in Asia's ancient cities and the rich material culture of Asiašs long history. | ||||
