Today No Water: Ink Painting by Wu Shanzhuan
January 11 - January 31, 2002 | ||||
| The exhibit is a non-narrative story that articulates an internal world reflecting the postmodern public sphere parodied by Red Humor. Narration is disrupted by conflicting languages (both verbal and visual), and the multifaceted, internal dialogue is made impossible by the constant intrusion of public language. In front of this work, it is sobering to remember the description of China by early Western travelers as a nation full of poetry, no doubt inspired by the countless poetic writings on public buildings. Today, after modernization, travelers would probably find a land of slogans a more fitting description of the Chinese world. | ||||
