On the Horns of a Dilemma: Problems and Politics of Archaeology in South Asia, Dr. Pratapaditya Pal (consulting curator of South Asian Art) The wanton destruction last January of the two colossal statues of the Buddha by the Taliban in Afghanistan cause universal anguish. It is not the first nor the last time such destruction of the heritage of mankind has occurred. It also raises issues that the academic world in the West has been grappling with for some time. In his illustrated lecture, Dr. Pal discusses some of these issues as well as other "enigmas" in South Asian archaeology that affect art history. | ||||
