•What Do Objects Tell Us: Magic, Mystery and Materials in Asian Art
Ongoing through August 19, 2002

The exhibit explores how an educator, a conservator and a registrar work with the collection and how their role and insights can be used as a tool to educate others about Asian art. Artists used jade, rock crystal, lacquer, ivory and silk crafted works of art with special consideration for their materials' visual properties concentrating on colour, surface quality and form.


•Ceremonial Splendor: Japanese Armour from the Barbier-Mueller Collection.

The exhibit highlights the creative genious of the Japanese armourers with spectacular suits of armour.



•Crow Collection Permanent Collection Objects in the Japanese and Chinese Galleries
Ongoing

The Crow Collection contains more than 500 paintings, objects of metal and stone, and large architectural pieces from China, Japan, India, and Southeast Asia. The over 300 works on display in the galleries, include precious jade ornaments from China, delicate Japanese scrolls and a rarely seen 28"x12" sandstone facade of an 18th century Indian residence, and date from 3500 BC to the early 20th century.
