Professor, History of Art and Program in Women's Studies. Scholarly interests include Netherlandish pictorial art and theory of the 16th and 17th centuries with a special focus on the imagery and ideologies of the pictorial arts in the Netherlands. Publications include "Natural Artifice and Material Values in Dutch Still Life Painting" (1997), Artifice and Illusion: The Art and Writing of Samuel van Hoogstraten (1995), Johannes Vermeer (1993), and "Stilled Lives: Self-Portraiture and Self-Reflection in Seventeenth-Century Netherlandish Still-Life Painting" (1990-91).
