Professor. Scholarly
interests include Indian art with a special focus on early Buddhist
and Hindu architecture, sculpture, and painting with extensive
work on cave temples, with particular emphasis on those at Ajanta,
Ellora, and Elephanta. Publications include Ajanta: A Brief
History and Guide (1994), "The Archaeology of Ajanta"
(1991), The Axis of Eros (1974), and Krishnamandala
(1971).
