A total of eighty-seven slides, with excellent
whole views and details of forty-eight representative pieces of
American and European sculpture, are included in this set. The
repertoire of styles and forms covers the time period from 1850-1982.
Nearly every piece of photographed sculpture was created by a
different artist, including masters such as Rodin, Moore, Calder,
and Noguchi. The works of art were placed and lighted with care
and precision characteristic of Patrick Young, staff photographer
for the Department of the History of Art and the University of
Michigan Museum of Art. His efforts have brought forth the three-dimensional
qualities of the objects, as well as their more subtle tonalities
of surface patterns and texture.
