Welcome To The Hindu Students Council - UofM
Hindu Students Council (HSC) is an independent, non-affiliated religious and cultural student organization at the University of Michigan, dedicated to creating an atmosphere conducive to worship, education, cultural experience, and service, as it relates to the Hindu faith.
HSC believes in the principles of tolerance and respect that are so essential to and characteristic of the Hindu faith. Furthermore, we recognize that formal definitions of Hinduism are various and vague. Hence, we adhere to a simple definition of Hinduism, namely, that Hinduism encompasses the various cultural, religious, spiritual, and ethical beliefs associated with, indigenous to, and inspired by the Indian subcontinent.
At present, our activities include weekly, interactive prayer sessions (Darshan) consisting of bhajans and devotional songs, philosophical/scriptural discussion, and occasionally small pujas. In addition, we host annual, large-scale celebrations for Diwali, Navaratri, Holi, Shivaratri, and other important Hindu festivals. Lastly, we organize talks on Hinduism by various speakers, traditional Indian dance nights (Garba/Raas), community service opportunities, and a variety of fun collaborative events (e.g. Bollywood Karaoke Night, bhajan concerts, interfaith forums, temple visits) throughout the year.
Suggestions and ideas for new events are most welcome!
All students and community members are always welcome at all of our events!
No formal membership is required.
