The web site goes into great detail about financial resources, social support, childcare, health and insurance resources. SchoolsMichigan State Law requires that all children between the ages of six and sixteen attend a public, charter or private school accredited by the State of Michigan. Most children aged five to eighteen attend school. The school year usually begins the last week of August and finishes in the middle of June. Classes are held Monday through Friday. Charter SchoolsCharter schools receive public education funds but operate independently from the local public school systems. Child CareBefore and After School CarePublic schools have both before-school and after-school programs for their students available for a fee. Contact your child's school for more information. Part-time or Full-time Child CareThe University's Work/Life Resources Program at 734.936.8677 can give you names of private, licensed child care providers (as well as elder care providers) who are registered with the office. They may be able to match you with a provider who can speak your language and direct you on how to do a background check on the person with the state licensing board. The Ann Arbor YMCA Child Care Center at 734.996.9622, provides child care services for children from 18 months to grade 5. Their program includes sports and fitness activities. When looking for a child care center for your child, make sure it is licensed. Ask about the program including activities, ratio of adults to children, and fees.
