This program of highly ornamented and
meditative Persian classical music brings together one of Iran's
foremost female vocalists with the celebrated Dastan Ensemble.
Parissa, a leading traditional singer
and one of the few Iranian women artists touring internationally today, is
noted for her vocal improvisation in both the classical and Sufi
repertoires. She will be joining the Dastan Ensemble,
which plays classical Persian music: an improvisatory tradition
that builds from meditative melodies to dazzling virtuosity. The Dastan Ensemble is comprised of virtuoso
instrumentalists, who provide a fresh approach to Persian
classical music on lutes, spike
fiddle, and percussion. The Dastan Ensemble is
lean and nimble as it traces the music's improvisatory arcs. The
fruit of this rare collaboration, called Shoorideh, was awarded
the Best Music of the Year by Charles Kroos Academy of France in
2003. Click here for the program.
Ticket price
