Ballot Language (This is what you will see on the ballot on Friday.)
A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE IGSA CONSTITUTION TO RESTRICT IGSA MEMBERSHIP TO CURRENT AFFILIATES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
The proposed amendment would change Part 1 of ARTICLE II to "Any individual with a current affiliation with the University of Michigan shall be eligible to become an IGSA member."
Should this proposal be adopted? Yes or No.
Rationale: IGSA has to register with the Michigan Student Assembly at the beginning of every fall semester. One of the registration requirements is that at least half of the membership of the student organization must be comprised of currently enrolled University of Michigan students. With only about 60% of our current membership being student members, our group barely meets the above requirement. Since the number of alumni members increases every year while the number of our student members has remained almost constant in the past few years, we may not be able to meet the above MSA requirement this fall.
