Michigan Japan Quiz Bowl

is sponsored by the Japanese Teachers Association of Michigan (JTAM): 2006 album online. 2006 scores.

Beginning in 2005 the quiz bowl and cultural exhibition has taken place at the University of Michigan.
In 2006 the official name changed from Japan Bowl (a term claimed by the national competition) to the Michigan Japan Quiz Bowl, and the cultural events changed from being concurrent to quiz matches to taking place at the end of the award ceremony. Thanks go to the Japan Student Association for conducting these cultural activities, with support from the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS).

The pictures below give a sense of the earlier format of quiz matches concurrent with cultural displays (2003 hosted by Michigan State University).
Thanks go to the volunteers who judged, and who kept scores and time. The numerous cultural exhibitors made substantial contribution to the day, too. In addition, many organizations, agencies and individuals helped to make the day possible.

The 2003 event was the biggest to date, with as many as 500 in attendance. There were 38 teams from 16 schools that vied to win in the four divisions and in order to advance to the national quiz bowl (with the exception of Division I).

During the preliminary rounds people visited the many cultural presentations shown in this online album. Browse these four pages in sequence by using the navigation links:
