The interlaced band, seen here, set against a red background and enclosing small lozenge-shaped spaces containing stylized birds and quadrupeds appears towards the end of the Fatimid period. Sometimes these arrangements are accompanied by cursive inscriptions, which tend to be benedictory repeats.
